I Was an Early Fundraiser for Kamala Harris. Barack Obama Changed My Life. I’ve Helped Launch and Lead Liberal-leaning Institutions. Why Do I Find Myself Politically Adrift?
Rishi, I don’t believe your “wonder years” will ever come to an end as long as you continue to fuel them by looking through your windows and recognizing and pondering the “awe and wonder in the other” as we discussed over dinner last evening. You are clearly a gifted writer whose wealth of life experience helps us all see things a little differently and leads us to join you along the tumultuous journey toward change. Through the breaking of bread, the sharing of wine, and the truth of honestly seeing each other, we can become unified and stronger together than apart. When we find common ground between us and dwell on that, our differences don’t seem quite as daunting. Thank you for sharing your reflections here for the benefit of others, myself included!
You write from your heart. I wish politicians deserved thoughtful people like you in advisory roles, listened to you, understood you, and acted in good conscience. How do you manage to stay positive and suspend cynicism and ennui while working with the current brood of politicians?
Most of all, though, I’ve wondered, is there still room to fearlessly wonder inside today’s Democratic Party? YES. I would love to go line by line through this with you- with wine, food, Peter and Anuja- oh, and Alex. Much to ask, much to share and some true aspirations for what a Democratic Party could do with Rishi Jaitly in the room. Invoking some Obama hope, we are close to the next wave and how great for all if you were to catch it and ride. Miss you and your thoughts. Great, provocative read.
